Shadow

My name is Shadow and I am still new here!  A couple months ago, my family took me to a place and left me there.  I am not sure why or what I did.  It was pretty scary at this new place and there were lots of other horses who were there with me.  While I was there they rode me around a little.  I was thin and not in good shape but I tried my best to do what they asked.

After being at this scary place for a while, someone new came and picked me up. They put me in a trailer next to another horse, which was ok by me because she was pretty cute!  We were in the trailer for what seemed like forever, but the people where really nice and stopped a lot to give us food and water and let us walk around.

After a few days we finally got to our new home.  It was really dark and we were both worried but when we got there, everyone was so nice.  They put us in stalls that were nice and warm with this really soft stuff on the ground!  And hay..there was lots of hay!

Every day I am getting stronger and I’ve made a whole group of new friends! I think I’m really going to like it here!

Saved from a Kill pen in Texas, Shadow had one hoof on the truck, headed to Mexico for slaughter.  Normally we would not transport such a long distance, but through the generosity of one of our generous donors, we were able to bring him to us for qt and rehab.

Shadow is a very sweet boy who is very much a “people horse”.  When Shadow arrived at EAP, he was about 75 – 100 lbs underweight and was in much need of hoof care and his teeth had been severely neglected.  When the vet came to do his teeth, he found that on both the top and the bottom teeth they were in a wave pattern and not matching up.  This explained a lot when it came to his weight.  We had Shadows first floating done and he will need his teeth floated every three months or so to be able to correct the issue.

Meanwhile, Shadow is definitely improving! It’s obvious that he has some great training.  He neck reins and does everything that is asked of him on the ground and is a complete gentleman. Because of the issues with his teeth, he is putting weight on slowly but will be at 100% really soon!

Once he is back in shape, Shadow will be available for adoption! For now he is happy in the pasture and enjoying being with the rest of our herd!
